The Canon EF 50mm lens is great and ideal for portrait pictures. The only drawback is that there is no zoom capability. However, it makes it up with its large aperture which is capable to be set at 1.8f maximum. It is also expensive so especially for beginners and budget conscious people, this lens is the best.
The Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 lens is a good low light indoor photography lens, especially when a flash is not appropriate or desired. And if you are the pro-blurry type of photographer, you would surely love the results at f1.8. The lens also feels like a toy when you hold it and its material feels like it is made of plastic.
This is the major advantage that no zoom lens have, large aperture openings. I have not seen any long range lenses from Canon so far that have apertures of less than 2.0, I think the maximum is like 3.5? Price and result-wise, Canon’s 50mm lens is very worth it and a must have for every photographer.
