Here is an effective class I use to detect gestures in Android devices such as flinging in any direction whether it is up, down, left or right using a GestureDetector.

I found this class in the illusionsandroid website and modified it a little to suit my requirements such as changing the value to at least detect a bit of a long fling rather than a short one.

To use the class. do it like this.

And, in your onTouch() method as I am sure your Activity implements the OnTouchListener, use the flingListener like this:

If the sources at BGR are true then, at last the design that was being carried out from the first iPhone to iPhone 4 and iPad would be modified according to Apple. Yeah !! we are talking about the Home Button. Apple would no longer be using the Home Button on iPhone 5 and iPad 2. They are going to add multi-touch gestures for iPad and iPhone in the latest iOS 4.3 beta.

The beta release of iOS 4.3 contains a preview of new Multi-Touch gestures for iPad. You can use four or five fingers to pinch to the Home Screen; swipe up to reveal the multitasking bar; and swipe left or right between apps.

Moreover BGR folks also said that they came to know from the sources that Apple employees are already testing iPad and iPhone with multi-touch gestures on the Apple Campus.

If Apple is already testing this, we can see the change in the iPad 2 which is set to launch in the year 2011. As Steve Jobs does not like the physical button on the iPhone so he may soon get his wish.
