Blizzard Entertainment confirmed what many had suspected: Starcraft II: Wings of Liberty is expected to launch for the PC alongside the newly redesigned online networking service before the end of the year. However, when Starcraft II does see release, it will do so without a hallmark of the real-time strategy genre: a local area network multiplayer option.

They had this to say “While this was a difficult decision for us, we felt that moving away from LAN play and directing players to our upgraded service was the best option to ensure a quality multiplayer experience with Starcraft II and safeguard against piracy.”

10% of that statement is true. While combating piracy is not a surprising reason, the bigger picture here is profits. Even though they scrapped local area networking gameplay, do you think people would not buy Starcraft 2 anymore? No. People will still buy them because there is no other game that offers the same kind that Blizzard’s games produce. Their games are just awesome!

And this would mean “HUGE” profits for Blizzard whilst draining gamers’ money just to subscribe to Who knows? Maybe that is what they will do. I ain’t a huge fan of anyway. Maybe the hackers will find a way to make LAN gaming work. Keep your fingers crossed.
