Evi made headlines when Apple decided to pull the app from its App Store because it was afraid of competition.
If the app itself violated their TOS, why the hell did they approve it in the first place? They are just too damn scared Siri will be backstaged by Evi. The same way they are suing Android phone makers because of the threat they pose to the smart phone market.
I tried Evi both in my wife’s iPhone 4S and my Android-run Samsung Galaxy S2 and I tell you, the responses I got were quicker and more accurate than Siri ever did. Plus, I like the fact that Evi has an extra option to let you type rather than speak.
Anyway, Evi is gone from the App Store. If your iPhone is rooted, you can get it from Installous. I was surprised that Evi in the Android Market is free so I quickly downloaded it to see its performance with my S2.
Both S2 and iPhone 4S performed well. The responses were quick and my wife actually enjoyed using it more now than Siri.
Apple, Apple, Apple. Just cannot accept the fact that Siri got backstaged this time.
One word. Disappointed. I was looking forward to seeing a very new model, probably supposed to be called iPhone 5. A bigger screen perhaps. But no, they released an iPhone 4 with an ‘S’ with the same screen size. While the 8mp camera as well as its processor should keep itself on par with its Android competitors, I was hoping they would release a new model that features a bigger screen.
And there is also the issue of how much RAM it will have. Since they did not even mention it in their website, I am going with 512MB. But who knows, I hope I am wrong. If it will be 1GB, then I might just buy one for my wife. Of course I may borrow it from time to time because I plan to start coding for iOS.
And then, there is the much hyped Siri. It could be revolutionary, it could be not. I won’t be using that for sure since I do not like using the voice feature.
Again, I expected too much. Considering that just a few days before the iPhone 4S’ release, their invitation said “Let’s Talk iPhone”. Can’t be blamed for expecting too much just from that phrase.
I believe Samsung and HTC pose the biggest threats to Apple’s dominance I think Apple should stop with the ‘S’ model release every other year. The Samsung Galaxy S3 looks to be even better than this year’s S2 so Apple should step up their game.
I might, just might get an iPhone 4S provided that the RAM is 1GB. That, at least should last me many years even with many OS updates and increased requirements from upcoming future games.
